Summary

What will you hear when you read this book to a preschool child?

Lots of noise!

Children will chant the rhythmic words。 They'll make the sounds the animals make。 And they'll pretend to be the zoo animals featured in the book-- look at the last page!

Bill Martin Jr。 and Eric Carle are two of the most respected names in children's education and children's illustrations。 This collaboration, their first since the classic Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (published more than thirty years ago and still a best-seller) shows two masters at their best。

Not as good as Brown Bear, but still enjoyable。

This book has been around for a long time。 Kids will enjoy reading about all the animals making so many different noises。 The colorful pictures will grab your attention。 This is a great read-aloud for young children。 Highly recommended for Grades K-1。

Nos divertimos mucho con los sonidos de los animales。

My son really liked this book! It will probably be an every night bed time read。 I enjoyed this book myself。 We made animal noises to go along with the book。

This book is good on repetition。 I liked how it tied in kids acting like the animals at the end。

This picture book is a cute repetitive story that introduces sounds and animals to young kids。There are many fun and playful rhymes throughout the book and the storyline is guessable but great for young kids。 It is an amazing board book that features simple but unique illustrations of many different types of animals。 The illustrations are distinctive and made by collages, which is unique in the children's book world。 By the author asking, “what do you hear?” it prompts the reader to respond, hel This picture book is a cute repetitive story that introduces sounds and animals to young kids。There are many fun and playful rhymes throughout the book and the storyline is guessable but great for young kids。 It is an amazing board book that features simple but unique illustrations of many different types of animals。 The illustrations are distinctive and made by collages, which is unique in the children's book world。 By the author asking, “what do you hear?” it prompts the reader to respond, helping to engage the listeners on a deeper level。 At the end of the book, it has a twist and shows a zookeeper and a bunch of kids dressed as the same animals shown throughout the book。 I like that this book shows a variety of animals and even some you wouldn’t expect like a boa constrictor and also different sounds。 This book never repeats sounds or animals, which makes it more entertaining to read。 Overall, this book is an amazing book to start to introduce sounds and connect them to different types of zoo animals。 。。。more

5/5 stars for kids, 4/5 stars for adults who may tire of the repetition/noises。 I try to be supportive when Esmé pushes whatever button she wants--because she likes that sound better or is eager to discover how it sounds or listen to it again or likes the color better, etc。--but I'm a bit of a snob and want her to choose the right sound as we read along the book haha, which I know is ridiculous so I try to keep that over-bearing strictness to myself and let her do what she wants。 The illustratio 5/5 stars for kids, 4/5 stars for adults who may tire of the repetition/noises。 I try to be supportive when Esmé pushes whatever button she wants--because she likes that sound better or is eager to discover how it sounds or listen to it again or likes the color better, etc。--but I'm a bit of a snob and want her to choose the right sound as we read along the book haha, which I know is ridiculous so I try to keep that over-bearing strictness to myself and let her do what she wants。 The illustrations are awesome。 。。。more

Another one of my favorite books from my childhood! I love that it allows kids to learn and practice different animal sounds, and like other books illustrated by Eric Carle, the style of art is so fun to me!

This book has been a constant request from my 22-month-old daughter。 I have read it so many times that I see the pictures when I close my eyes at night, so I am glad that the artwork is lovely。

Of course I have read this book ages ago but I am recording it now as "Officially Read"! Love the repetition of the story and the colorful animals and just love the series in general!

This was another Christmas present from a friend for Lily。The illustrations are lovely, but I didn't like the text as much as the original Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?。 It just didn't flow as well ("boa constrictor, boa constrictor"), and I didn't feel like some of the words really described the animal sounds ("flamingo fluting")。The edition we have has some built-in sounds and I did appreciate that it seemed to be recordings of the actual animal sounds。 I've seen at least one other This was another Christmas present from a friend for Lily。The illustrations are lovely, but I didn't like the text as much as the original Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?。 It just didn't flow as well ("boa constrictor, boa constrictor"), and I didn't feel like some of the words really described the animal sounds ("flamingo fluting")。The edition we have has some built-in sounds and I did appreciate that it seemed to be recordings of the actual animal sounds。 I've seen at least one other sound book that had bad recordings of humans imitating animals (can't remember the title), so this one was way better than that。 。。。more

Such a good childrens book!

This book was apparently written over 20 years after its predecessor。 Unfortunately, the writing doesn't flow nearly as well, and I can only imagine parents and teachers tripping over their own tongues trying to read it aloud to their kids。 On the plus side, the artwork is just as lovely, so it's worthwhile if you're interested in children's picturebook illustration! The sounds didn’t work on this secondhand book, but we had a lot of fun trying to make the sounds ourselves。

Lame and boring。 But really I've read worse。 I prefer my picture book text to split the difference between parents and early readers。 The choice of animals and sounds were fine。 The art wasn't great but it wasn't bad。 2。5 of 5。 Lame and boring。 But really I've read worse。 I prefer my picture book text to split the difference between parents and early readers。 The choice of animals and sounds were fine。 The art wasn't great but it wasn't bad。 2。5 of 5。 。。。more
